Sumbawa is a stone’s throw to the East of Lombok, separated by the Alas Strait. Sumbawa and Lombok together form the province of West Nusa Tenggara, with its own Governor. Sumbawa comprises two distinct halves, the East and the West. The East has a drier climate, and famous Lakey Peak. West Sumbawa, or Sumbawa Barat, has stayed off the radar due to the time it has taken to get there (soon to change). Adventurous surfers and pro’s have put Scar Reef, Yoyos and Super Suck on the map. West Sumbawa has plenty more to offer than hair-raising shred waves. It is a dramatic volcanic land of mountains, rainforests, healthy ecosystems, wildflife, oceanlife and many waves for longboarders as well as shortboarders! It has a distinct dry season and wet season. It is largely undeveloped by Westerners with low population density. The future flights from Bali to the new Kiantar Airport in Kertasari, West Sumbawa will only be about 1 hour long. So it is an affordable, and to us far more attractive, alternative to the Bali and Lombok hotspots.
